Rene Magritte

Surrealism has always been my favourite style of art. one of my favourite surrealist artist of all time is Rene Magritte. Born in Belgium,1898, he only began drawing at 1910. With his earlier works done in the style of impressionism,futurism and cubism, he would later settle down on surrealism. his paintings to me is art depicts mysteries and thought evoking questions simplified in the most normal of objects found daily. It sends the viewer into sort of a deep trance where they themselves can find the answer behind the painting. To me, the height of great art is achieved when the artist can tie together the strings of the conscious and the subconscious, sparking a sense of understanding. His works would also portray juxtaposition, and situations that defied nature. To that, he commended "It is a union that suggests the essential mystery of the world. Art for me is not an end in itself, but a means of evoking that mystery." Only those who understand the language of the subconscious can uncover the meaning in his works.
