Fugu sashimi (河豚)

Fugu, or pufferfish is hailed as one of the heights of Japanese delicacy. Despite its potent neurotoxin present in its meat, people are still willing to risk their lives to eat this delicacy. The poison causes paralysis while the victim is fully conscious. Some consider the liver the tastiest part but it is also the most poisonous, and serving this organ in restaurants was banned in Japan in 1984. It takes a licensed chef with years of training to prepare and serve the fugu. the parts of the fish that are not eaten must be locked and chained to prevent misuse. Lastly the fugu can be served either as sushi, sashimi, or nabe style. I think that fugu is one of the many delicacies in the world that one must try.
